We all come back

I left Nova Scotia in 2000 and headed out west, like many other Maritimers. But as they say, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. I always knew I'd come home again. The pull of the Maritimes is a strong one. The whole time I was away I missed family, friends and Nova Scotia. I love this province. It's hard to pinpoint why because there are so many things that make it special; the heritage, the people, the music, the scenery, and the list goes on and on.

And now I am back, finally. And here to stay. Although I don't have a crystal ball, I can say that with all certainty I have no intentions of moving away again. There really is no place like home.

For the past couple of months I have been living in my sister's basement trying to decide what to do and where to go when my current position ends in March. It's not ideal, but I have been able to reconnect with my sister, my nieces and nephew, and other friends and family who I am missed very much these past 8 years.

One day my sister and I were sitting around thinking, "We're two intelligent women, why can't we have our own business?" Once we planted that seed in our brains it just took root and grew very quickly. A few weeks later and we have just closed on a property in the beautiful and historic town of Pictou, NS where we plan to open a Bed & Breakfast with a small shop on the side. It is a little scary but a lot exciting! The people we have met so far in Pictou are just wonderful and so friendly. We can't wait to open our business and become a part of the community. And how great will it to be to have our own business in Nova Scotia, the province we both love and call home?! I can't wait to start. Wish us luck!
