Settling In

My family came to Canada in 1996 when I was doing my Ph.D. at Memorial University in Newfoundland. It was an amazing experience to come from the warm weather in Egypt to Newfoundland but we loved it.  People over there are so friendly.  After I finished my degree in marine engineering we went back to Egypt for almost one year but my kids who started their school in Newfoundland wanted to come back to Canada, so we applied for immigration and came to Nova Scotia in summer 2000. It was hard at the beginning to find a job here for my husband who is a mechanical engineer in Egypt. He tried all kind of jobs such as pizza maker, he worked at Wendy's, he worked at a candy store in Dartmouth, but he decided to go back to school to be able to work at the engineering field which he loves so he went to NSCC he probably was the oldest student there but he graduated and looked for job still was not easy for him even he got a certificate from Canada but finally he was able to join Michelin the tier plant in the Annapolis Valley, he works 12 hour shift so for him to start at 7am he has to leave home at 5am since we live in Halifax, but he loves it we are so proud of him. for me I been working at E.Y.E Marine in Dartmouth now for almost 7 years the funny thing happened to me is after 2 months of starting my job at E.Y.E. I got pregnant. I was so scared I was crying how could it happen to me I was 39 years old and I just started my job, but my boss who is really so nice came to me and congratulate me and everyone helped me until I got may baby and they made the best shower party for me like home, I stayed at home for almost one year on maternity leave and when I went back to work my boss did not mind to let me work part time to be able to take care of my baby, now she is 6 years old she goes to school and I am back to work as a full time. My oldest daughter who is 16 years old she is also in the engineering field she studies at Dalhousie University and she is doing great. She got 3 scholarships. My son who is 15 years old he is at grade 10 he is a black belt in Tae kwon do and he is also doing great at school. We love Nova Scotia it is a great place to live at.
