A Proud Heritage

Although I have put down roots in Florida, I often make the pilgrimage home to Nova Scotia with my husband of 17 years We are historians and environmental educators, and found that in so many ways, Florida's story is linked to that of Nova Scotia. We travel to Parsborough and Joggins to comb their fossil cliffs for clues to Florida's ancient geology. We make our way to Lunenburg to study shipbuilding history for links to Florida's age of sail. My heritage dates back to 1758, when my Irish ancestor stepped off a ship in Halifax harbor and made his way to the beautiful Annapolis Valley. It still runs thick in my veins. It is a proud heritage and I would give anything to be able to return to the salt of the earth people and rugged landscape that forged the strong foundation for my life. Thank you for creating this site to share with expatriates like myself.
