"Because I Can"

Your Story

I'm Jim Cole, a 70 year old Halifax/Dartmouth native, now residing in San Francisco. My wife and I maintain a summer home in Mahone Bay NS where we spend the summer months.

About a year ago I became fascinated with the UK Clipper Round the World Ocean Yacht Race and decided that it wasn't too late in life to do something I'd dreamed about doing....a transatlantic crossing. I've sailed for over 35 years, but ocean sailing is very different from sailing I've done in the past. Consequently I've spent the past three weeks at Clipper's UK training facility getting accustomed to the 68' racing yachts which are sailed in the competition. There will be ten identical yachts competing in the race representing 10 different countries including Canada. I'll be sailing on the Canadian entry under the Nova Scotia banner.

While attending their UK training program they asked if I would agree to an interview, in part because I'll be the oldest participant ever to compete in the race.

Below is the link to the Clipper website article titled, "Because I Can". As a native Nova Scotian and still very involved with my home province, I thought the story might be of some interest.
