A 'Shout Out' for Nova Scotia

I have had the privilege of calling Halifax my home since the age of three and of obtaining my undergraduate and Medical degrees from Dalhousie. I continued my studies at McGill where I was consistently reminded by residents/fellows/faculty how impressed they were not only with the clinical skills of Dalhousie Medical School graduates, but also with their friendly, grounded and professional demeanor. The skills (medical and life) acquired back home laid a solid foundation which enabled me to eventually teach Medicine and to participate in several overseas/domestic projects.Read more

The Steep Hill Journey

I travel a lot with business.

I travel to trade shows in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal and at most shows I am able to do an on-stage presentation and chat with consumers at our booth.

I like to talk to people in the crowd about Halifax and Nova Scotia. At each of those show I come across several attendees who are expats from around Nova Scotia.

For them it gives them memories of home and also gives them a sense of pride that a business is leaving the safety of our borders and gaining a foothold in those larger markets.Read more

Wild Horses Couldn't Drag Me Away

Having lived in Nova Scotia all my life, I have to tell you I am very fortunate. Most of my friends and family have left for work over the years, only to return at the first opportunity.    Most people that visit want to move here. People are so friendly; the climate is moderate; there is little crime.  People have good family values. It is a nice place to live and raise a family.Read more

Settling In

My family came to Canada in 1996 when I was doing my Ph.D. at Memorial University in Newfoundland. It was an amazing experience to come from the warm weather in Egypt to Newfoundland but we loved it.  People over there are so friendly.  After I finished my degree in marine engineering we went back to Egypt for almost one year but my kids who started their school in Newfoundland wanted to come back to Canada, so we applied for immigration and came to Nova Scotia in summer 2000. It was hard at the beginning to find a job here for my husband who is a mechanical engineer in Egypt.Read more

We all come back

I left Nova Scotia in 2000 and headed out west, like many other Maritimers. But as they say, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. I always knew I'd come home again. The pull of the Maritimes is a strong one. The whole time I was away I missed family, friends and Nova Scotia. I love this province. It's hard to pinpoint why because there are so many things that make it special; the heritage, the people, the music, the scenery, and the list goes on and on.Read more

A Proud Heritage

Although I have put down roots in Florida, I often make the pilgrimage home to Nova Scotia with my husband of 17 years We are historians and environmental educators, and found that in so many ways, Florida's story is linked to that of Nova Scotia. We travel to Parsborough and Joggins to comb their fossil cliffs for clues to Florida's ancient geology. We make our way to Lunenburg to study shipbuilding history for links to Florida's age of sail. My heritage dates back to 1758, when my Irish ancestor stepped off a ship in Halifax harbor and made his way to the beautiful Annapolis Valley.Read more

Nova Scotia is where I want to be

I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, having lived in Halifax/Dartmouth as well as Lower Sackville.

My father was in the navy, stationed in the Halifax area from 1959-1986, and upon retirement, moved his family to BC. I have been here ever since and I am always longing to return home to live.

I last visited in 2006, and realized that Nova Scotia is where I want to be and I am planning to be in 2012. My wife, who is from BC, fell in love with Nova Scotia, and is always looking at real estate in the province, is too looking forward to our move.Read more

Open to New Ideas

I'm a native Quebecer from Montreal and felt it was time for a change. I moved to Ontario for a few years, then finally took up permanent residence here in Halifax in 2006. I run an I.T. company and have found that doing business in Nova Scotia is great. the people are more inviting and open to new ideas. Business moves at a reasonable pace which makes for a less stressing work environment. I've always loved the hospitality and picturesque scenery when I've visited Nova Scotia in the past. I love being by the ocean and fishing which makes Nova Scotia a great place to do business and play.Read more

We Headed East

My husband and I travelled from BC to NS in June of 2008 after much research on the Internet learning about NS on cold winter days last year in the Okanagan Valley. I read with interest the article from Bruce and Jane Emlyn who very much want to come to NS as we too found the BC life just too stressful and longed for the unpretentious and genuine way of life here in this beautiful province. I was born in BC and my husband is from Devon England.Read more

Looking for Adventure

My Name is Oscar and I live in Kenya. Kenya is on the Eastern Part of Africa round about in the middle. I'm 29 years and have lived here all my life apart from the occasional vacational visits to the neighbouring countries Uganda & Tanzania. I have worked for one of the leading Banks in Kenya for close to 9 years now. The exciting stories I have heard about Canada, moreso Nova Scotia have led me to look for employment here, which means new challenges, experiences and friends. A real Adventure for me!

Nova Scotia Bound

My husband and I had our first visit to Nova Scotia in 2005, we returned to Calgary (lived here since 1996) promising we would start planning our move out east!  We have attempted this twice but have always "postponed" at the last minute with fear of leaving our financially rewarding jobs.  We are commited either way now to moving spring 2008, no looking back.  We love Nova Scotia and hope the people will embrace us as we have the province.  We are a couple of outsiders wanting desperately to be "insiders"!  We cannot wait to start our new livesRead more

Smitten with Nova Scotia

My wifes' sister lives in Berwick and on my first visit to the a Annapolis valley I was smitten. On three subsequent visits we house hunted, finally finding an old beauty of 156 years in Cheverie. Our back yard faces onto the Minas Basin, with glorious sunsets almost every evening. After our last, month long home renovation/holiday it was a  heart -wrenching struggle leaving Nova Scotia. Now, two months later I am determined to find employment in your beautiful province that I hope to call mine soon.

A Welcome Home!

I live in Halifax but I'm from Canso, Nova Scotia! I work at the
brand new Citadel High School as a teacher and I coach one of our provincial basketball teams. I think Nova Scotia is such an amazing place to live.

I'm so happy to hear about the person from Brampton moving to my home town. Canso and the rest of Nova Scotia is such a beautiful place. I'm glad you've enjoyed the people and the place.

Here's to good times in the Maritimes! Cheers,

Devin R.
