The Pictou Regional Development Commission (PRDC) works to spark and sustain economic development in Pictou County. Formed in 1991 by the six municipal governments within Pictou county, it became one of 13 provincial regional development agencies in 1994.
Working on a collaborative partnership model with community volunteers, municipal, provincial and federal governments, the PRDC works to ensure Pictou County is active on the global stage and is a dynamic centre of influence.
The list of accomplishments for this vibrant RDA is long. The PRDC initiated a province-wide project to develop an immigration and settlement guide for rural Nova Scotia and is cultivating an arts and crafts industry in Pictou County. It has provided more than $5 million in project funding and plays an active part in the Atlantic Gateway via Nova Scotia=s small-sized cruise ship initiative, capitalizing on the small ports niche market. The PRDC continues its role of facilitating the strategic planning for a number of municipal and non-profit organizations, supporting them through to the implementation phase of their plans.
