David Kantro

When David was just 18 years old, he decided to move from his home on the Ivory Coast to Nova Scotia.  Knowing only that he wanted an adventure and to move to Canada, David chose Nova Scotia because Université Sainte-Anne – one of Nova Scotia’s 11 world-class universities – enabled him to study in his native language.

When he graduated with his business administration degree David began working at a company in Burnside until recently when he joined the Black Business Initiative where he now works in accounting.  In September, David will begin to study for his CMA.

An avid soccer fan – David plays for the Pogue Fado team in the Halifax Soccer League – he was pleased when “his” team Spain won the World Cup.  David also hosts a radio program on the local French station where he introduces his listeners to international music and lets people “rant and rave” every Wednesday from 8 to 9 pm.

Besides the varying weather (he initially arrived in Nova Scotia in the winter!) David says the food and customs in Nova Scotia took a while to become accustomed to – but he has come to love this place.

Only 24, he has seen a lot of Canada – living in Vancouver, Montreal, Quebec – and has visited other parts of the world including the US and Middle East. He also travels back to the Ivory Coast to visit family.  But it is Halifax, Nova Scotia that is David’s home now.  “I’ve left Halifax a couple of times, but I’ve always come back,” says David.  “It is here that I can focus on life and have the freedom to be who I want to be.”
