Turbine Fall Fashion Show

Lisa Drader-Murphy

Halifax’s fashion-forward are already snapping up tickets for what is likely to be another sold-out Turbine event, as Canadian designer Lisa Drader-Murphy unveils her newest collections of fashions, handbags and jewellery, 7 p.m., Saturday, October 15 at Casino Nova Scotia’s elegant Schooner Showroom.

Hosted by CTV's Heidi Petracek and generously sponsored by Casino Nova Scotia, this year Turbine Showcase 2011 will highlight an astonishing 350-plus new pieces from Drader-Murphy’s latest collections. The evening will also feature a live musical performance by singer songwriter Lana Grant, a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres, a chance to win a surprise package valued at $1000, and the first opportunity to shop the limited edition selections featured on the runway.

Turbine Showcase 2011 will reflect inspirations from Drader-Murphy’s experiences and extensive travels over the past whirlwind year. Drader-Murphy was honoured to be invited to present Turbine's Collection at three of the prestigious DPA celebrity gifting suites over the past year: the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, the 2011 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California, and the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Along with meeting and clothing the stars of film and television, her business and designs – particularly a recent creation, the Upside-Down Dress – have received extensive coverage this year in national and international broadcast, print and online media, including features on CTV, CBC, CNN, Entertainment Tonight, BFM-France, Canal+, The New York Times, Cosmo Europe and more.

“It’s been an amazing year,” said Drader-Murphy, whose designs are produced in a 150 year-old renovated apple barn in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley and featured in select boutiques across the country and Turbine's flagship store in Halifax. “I can’t wait to share the styles inspired by this past year – a year that has been full of amazing experiences and opportunities.” Some of the fabrics used in this year’s creations will be luxurious Italian and Viennese textiles that were discovered on Lisa’s recent travels to Austria.

As at every Turbine Showcase, included in the presentation will be a sustainable unused vintage wool collection, including suits in 1950's plaid suiting, first introduced in Turbine's Fall 1997 Collection.

Net proceeds from ticket sales and all proceeds from the raffled $1000 surprise package at this annual event are donated to various women's charities via Turbine’s charitable giving arm, The Turbine Fund. With a mandate to “Empower Women Through Education, Support, and Example,” preference is shown to lesser-known organizations that receive limited government support and could benefit most from the funds and platform of the event.

In addition to supporting numerous community events, the Turbine Fund has contributed cash in excess of $100,000 to various organizations since 2003.

"I am so pleased to be supporting Alice Housing with this year's Turbine Showcase donation.

This organization is doing so much necessary and important work, providing women a safe and supportive environment to heal and rebuild their lives after escaping domestic abuse", says Drader-Murphy.

Tickets to Turbine Showcase 2011 are $50 each and a limited number of VIP tables for eight are available at $400 and they may be purchased in person at the Turbine Boutique at 1475 Lower Water Street at Bishop’s Landing, by calling 902.429.0986, or by emailing
