Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival August 14 - August 29
Nova Scotia processes more wild blueberries than anywhere else in the world and is the second largest producer. It’s Nova Scotia’s #1 agricultural export, our Provincial berry, and is believed to contain more anti-oxidants than any other fruit or vegetable. Communities throughout Central and Northern Nova Scotia celebrate this natural and tasty treat each year at the Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival. In 2008 the festival featured over 75 events in 20+ communities featuring live music, community suppers & and teas, motorcycle rides through wild blueberry country, pie eating contests, farmers markets, quilt shows, exhibitions and more. The 2009, 5th annual Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival is planning to grow even further to continue to broaden the scope of its offerings. Festival Coordinator Devin Trefry comments that:
“People love to eat and have a good time, so we’re pleased to offer visitors and community members as many opportunities as possible to enjoy and learn about Nova Scotia wild blueberries – a true icon of our province.”
