Literacy is defined as the ability to use printed information to function in society, at work and in the family. It is the combination of thinking and social skills we need to analyze and use information to control our lives, achieve our goals and develop our knowledge and potential.
Since 1992, Literacy Nova Scotia (LNS) has been supporting the literacy community in Nova Scotia, ensuring every Nova Scotian has equal access to quality literacy education.
This not-for-profit organization provides a provincial forum for organizations and people to work together to make sure every adult has learning opportunities, supporting and encouraging adult learners, and informing government and the general public about literacy.
By providing grants to literacy organizations, scholarships and bursaries for adult learners, professional development for instructors and tutors, conducting research, sharing information and other initiatives, LNS supports and serves adult learners, practitioners and the community.
