Spectacle Communications Group Inc. is an award-winning visual communications, graphic design and marketing studio based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We have developed a substantial reputation for creativity and professionalism in the development and implementation of integrated marketing strategies, visual identity, branding programs and advertising.

Spectacle Group as a company has developed out of the passion of 6 individuals who have chosen to live in Nova Scotia. It is our passion for this place that has shaped our corporate structure. Each of us has chosen to remain in, return to or move to this place because we believe it to be a world-class working and living environment. It was through our experiences with Nova Scotian clients, colleagues, suppliers, organizations, governments and industries that we shaped our corporate vision. The culture of cooperation, innovation, perseverance and joy that permeates this coastal community provides the guiding principals for our internal and external corporate guidelines.

We make it a priority to seek out ways to contribute to Nova Scotia’s well-being — we support arts, culture, heritage, health and tourism in myriad ways.

We are a long-time sponsor of the Atlantic Film Festival, supporting all of their initiatives including alFresco filmFesto, ViewFinders International Film Festival for Youth, Strategic Partners and of course the Atlantic Film Festival. We have worked with the Parkinson’s Society Maritime Region helping them to develop educational and promotional materials supporting their work. Through the Canadian Youth Business Foundation, we have acted as mentor to North Knight Software, a local startup software development firm, helping them with business development activities; and we have provided internships for students attending the Nova Scotia Community College and NSCAD University.

Spectacle Group members have served on a variety of boards, including Metamorphic Theatre, The NCSAD Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Linda Joy Media Arts Society. We are members of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Halifax Business Association and the Centre for Women in Business.

We actively seek out projects that benefit our province, our city and our environment. Creating a new identity and wayfinding system for HRM’s recreation facilities, promoting local food through our partnerships with Taste of Nova Scotia and Select Nova Scotia, and working with the Downtown Halifax Business Commission are examples of the types of projects towards which we gravitate.

There is an incredible pool of talented, experienced, creative individuals in this province. There is a wealth of smart and growing businesses and organizations. Capitalizing on the best that Nova Scotia has to offer, Spectacle Group has taken four small businesses, empowered our staff and become an organization with excellent growth potential. We work in an office that feels like home, in a city that feels like it is growing, in an environment that allows us, along with our families, to flourish. Charter Members

Kevin Tomlinson has a mystery to solve. While he, his wife, and several colleagues from Investors Group (IG) were away on a cruise, he received word from back home that there had been a “dusting of snow.” That might have been an understatement. It was actually a foot and a half. But that healthy heap of Nova Scotia winter was not the only surprise Tomlinson found upon his return. “When we got back from the cruise, my driveway was plowed,” he smiles. “One of my neighbours did it, but we haven’t figured out who yet.”

Originally from Whitby, Ontario, Tomlinson came to Nova Scotia in 2006 to take a regional director position with IG. “We liked the idea of coming to the East Coast,” he says. “We liked the lifestyle, the adventure.” Since then, he and his family have discovered many marvellous features of their new home. Yet, for Tomlinson, it is the people – people like his mysterious snow removing neighbour, his clients, and his fellow IG financial consultants – who have made the greatest impression. “The comments about how friendly the people are here are absolutely true,” he says.
