Another Hidden Gem - Uncovered

Blog

My home state of Missouri is about as far from the coast as you can get in the United States.  We don’t have an ocean.  We have a lot of big lakes, as you do, some glacial and some manmade.  We have the country’s largest fishing supply store, the Bass Pro Shops.  But salt water-not so much.

So it was a thrill to take a submitted suggestion in the Come to life contest and drive down the Aspotogan Highway to Bayswater Beach.  St. Margaret’s Bay was on our left the entire way down on a sunny, windy late afternoon. I was particularly taken by the brightly colored lobster boats nestled in Northwest Cove, the bright orange and blues forming a pleasing complimentary color palette (see, I was paying attention Beth!) for our eyes.  The sea was gentle on an overall idyllic kind of day and the cormorants and gulls were easy to spot and hear with our windows open to the salt breeze.

We got out and rambled on Bayswater Beach, truly a hidden gem on this day with only one other family in sight.  We flew a gecko shaped kite in the still breeze, looked for striking stone patterns and shells, and enjoyed seaside sounds, sights, and smells.  Dinner was at the Deck in Blanford, with the water in full view and fish on the menu.  By the time we reached Hubbard on the way back, the sun was setting over the bay, ending a picturesque afternoon and a beautiful spring day spent nearly entirely near the water.

The drive, beach, and views were spectacular to a land lubber from the Midwest like me.  Thanks for the great suggestion!

ps: You can join Mark and Kevin at a games night event this Saturday evening at St. Lukes United Church in Tantallon.  The church is located along the St. Margart's Bay Road - just before the Bike and Bean.  The fun begins at 7pm.
