An American in Nova Scotia - Hidden Gems Journey
Wednesday was too nice of a day in the Halifax Regional Municipality to sit inside. My host family, the Littles, stayed pretty close to home in Stillwater Lake and we didn’t visit any of the official “hidden gems” suggested by the Come to life contest. Taking advantage of the gorgeous spring weather we did take a hike on the Rails to Trails path behind the Bike and Bean coffee shop in Upper Tantallon. The brook was babbling, the birds were singing and it was a pleasant morning for a hike.
In the afternoon we visited the unique solar home of John (in Canada I think it should be Jouhn) and Beth Matthews, multi-talented local artists, gardeners and grandparents. We were there so Kevin’s daughter Lucy could visit their new dog Fogo.
Lucy has been pressing for a dog but her father, who appropriately has a Scrooge and Marley shingle hung up in his office, is against it. As a visitor, I thought it wise to stay out of the discussion. I visited with John instead ,who actually went to college in my home state of Missouri. Otherwise it was a day for talking, relaxing, coffee houses, and enjoying the first sunshine of my visit. Back on the hard scrabble tourist road Thursday.
If you'd like to meet Mark - join him and Kevin Little for "Games Night" this Saturday at St. Lukes United Church in Tantallon. The fun starts at 7pm at 5374 St. Margaret's Bay Road.
